COCKTAIL-STYLE ONIONS 

Level 2
Slavic Cabbage with Cocktail Style Onions
As a side dish: serves 4*
As a bed for entrée: serves 2

A nice change from rice, noodles or potatoes, this onion-accented cabbage works great as a side dish or as a bed for an entrée.  

* recipe easily doubles  

1 Tbsp. butter
2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
1 tsp. carraway
1/2 cup water-packed Holland-style onions, halved and well-drained

1/2 red (or white) cabbage, cored, shredded
1-2 Tbsp. fresh parsley, finely chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
 

 

  1. Heat butter in a medium sized skillet on low until bubbling.
  2. Add garlic, caraway seeds and drained onions, stirring with a wooden spoon to coat well.
  3. Saute for about 2 minutes until garlic begins to soften and seeds darken slightly. Add shredded cabbage and parsley.
