ROCK HARD SUGAR
The Bread-in-a-Bag Method
(or)
The Orange-in-a-Bag Method
Take your rock hard sugar (granulated sugar, light brown sugar or dark brown sugar) and and zip the mass into a plastic freezer bag with a couple of slices of torn up bread, with all the air squeezed out. What happens is that the bread gradually sucks out all the moisture from the sugar. Do it overnight, or take a look in two or more hours: the sugar breaks apart like a dream.
Some people prefer the Orange-in-a-Bag Method: same basic plan but this time putting an orange in with the sugar block into an airtight plastic freezer bag. The orange method takes a little longer, so do it overnight and check on your sugar miracle in the morning.
